Megjegyzések:	The authors investigated the number and functions of peripheral blood monocytes in patients with mixed connective tissue disease. Moderate monocytopenia was detected in the active stage of the disease. There was a close correlation between the sensitized sheep red blood cell binding capacity of monocytes and the elevated levels of circulating immune complexes. The yeast phagocytosis of monocytes and the chemotactic activity were normal in patients with mixed connective tissue disease. C3b receptor mediated phagocytosis of monocytes decreased in the active and inactive stages of the disease. This study suggests that the decreased function of C3b receptors of monocytes is related to the pathogenesis of this disease.

Megjegyzések:	Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) from 29 patients with mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) were studied "in vitro" for their phagocytic and chemotactic function as well as for granulocyte alkaline phosphatase (GAP) activity. Fc-receptor expression detected by EA-rosette formation was comparable to the control. Yeast-phagocytosis, C3b-receptor mediated phagocytosis and chemotaxis of PMNs, however, significantly decreased in MCTD. At the same time, photometric measure of alkaline phosphatase activity indicated a nearly two fold increase in PMNs from patients with MCTD. Although no correlation was found between PMN functions and the activity of the disease, PMN disorders may play a role in pathogenesis of these connective tissue disorders.

Megjegyzések:	The zymosan-induced chemiluminescence of human phagocytes (neutrophil granulocytes) could be inhibited by adenosine, polyadenylic acid, dipyridamole (an agent blocking the cellular adenosine uptake) and coformycin (a highly potent inhibitor of enzyme adenosine deaminase). It is suggested that in estimating the antianginal and antithrombotic action of dipyridamole, its action on the phagocytes should be taken into account. The same consideration would be true for 2'-deoxycoformycin (a coformycin analogue) used as a potent anticancer and immunosuppressive drug.

Megjegyzések:	The increased number of the CD5+ (Leu 1) B cells in 9 of 17 patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (SS) were found in this study. The percentage of CD5+ B cells that demonstrated an increased number of these cells was more than 45% in patients with pSS, and the normal level 26.3 +/- 8.8% in control subjects. The ratio of the CD5+ B cells was higher if the pSS was in the active stage.
