Megjegyzések:In former papers we proposed a method for the determination of the volume derivatives of dissipative and elastic free energy contributions at the start and finish temperatures of the martensitic transformation. This analysis can be extended and from the normalized hysteresis loops the non-chemical free energies can be calculated at different transformed fractions. The self-consistency of the extended analysis is illustrated on the basis of hysteresis and differential scanning calorimetry measurements in polycrystalline Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloys. In single-crystalline samples of the same alloy, the equilibrium transformation temperature has also been determined as the function of the uniaxial stress, which can make the above analysis complete and allows the determination of the absolute values of the elastic energy contributions as well.

Cím:Stress dependence of non-chemical free energy contributions in Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloy / L. Daróczi; Z. Palánki; S. Szabó; D. L. Beke
Dátum:2004
ISSN:0921-5093
Megjegyzések:A Cu?24.0 at.% Al?2.2 at.% Ni?0.5 at.% B shape memory alloy was investigated experimentally under uniaxial tensile stress (?) up to 10MPa. Transformation temperatures and transformation strains as a function of ? were evaluated from the simultaneously measured temperature?elongation and temperature?resistance curves. Using appropriate analysis [Philos. Mag. B 82 (2002) 105; Scripta Mater. 43 (2000) 691; J. Phys. IV 11 (2001) Pr8], it is possible to determine the stress dependence of the volume derivatives of the elastic and dissipative free energies at the start and finish points of the forward and reverse transformations from the measured transformation temperatures and strains. From our experimental data, the above volume derivatives were calculated as a function of stress. The dissipative contributions both of the forward and reverse transformations increase with increasing stress. In case of elastic contributions, the difference between the forward and reverse transformation values as well as their decreasing tendency with increasing stress was clearly proved.

Cím:Determination of the equilibrium transformation temperature (T0) and analysis of the non-chemical energy terms in a CuAlNi single crystalline shape memory alloy / Z. Palánki, L. Daróczi, C. Lexcellent, D. L. Beke
Dátum:2007
ISSN:1359-6454
Megjegyzések:method for the determination of the equilibrium transformation temperature (T0) in CuAlNi single crystalline alloys, by traditional uniform heating and cooling of the specimen under constant uniaxial applied stress, r, is presented and the T0(r) functions are constructed. Above a certain stress level the phase transformations, even in a multiple interface mode, can be driven in such a way that the thermal hysteresis loops have a rectangular part, from which T0 can be determined via the well-known relation: T0 = (Ms + Af)/2, where Ms and Af are the martensite start and austenite finish temperatures, respectively. At low stress values the heating up branch of the hysteresis is different; it starts with a vertical part showing that the beginning of the austenite formation is free of the release of the elastic energy (this takes place only in the second part of this branch). Here the T0 temperature can be determined as the arithmetic mean of Ms and the austenite start temperature, As. Using the experimentally determined stress dependence of the transformation strain, the T0 vs. r function was also constructed from the Clausius?Clapeyron relation and this curve fitted very well to the points obtained from the above relationships at high and low stress levels, respectively. The stress dependence of the non-chemical energy contributions to the phase transformation are also determined. It is shown that integrals of the differential values (the derivatives of the energy contributions by the transformed fraction) give self-consistent results with the (integral) quantities directly measured in differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) experiments or obtained from the area of the hysteresis loops.
