Megjegyzések:	The paper describes the role and importance of maintenance in various industrial plants. Today maintenance is becoming more and more important in the achievement of production and quality / safety goals because of the world-wide changes in the industrial environment. The maintenance approaches have been developed from, the simple run-to-failure, up to the most sophisticated technologies. Condition based, reliability centred and risk-informed maintenance methods play substantial roles. Optimization of maintenance programs is a systematic activity to eliminate, or decrease, imbalance between the different requirements and the resources available. Maintenance optimization creates a work environment for the purpose of meeting the maintenance as well as overall plant objectives. Examples of optimization techniques and tools are presented.
