Megjegyzések:In this paper two main ideas will be focused on: firstly, the definition of the term generic element and the role of a generic element in everyday language and communication as well as their role in toponyms. An attempt will be made to show the universal features of generic elements, with examples taken from Hungarian. The size of the corpus and the frequency of the items in it will also be discussed. Finally, I will talk about the dictionary of modern Hungarian generic elements now under preparation, focusing on the principles and methods of this work. After presenting an entry I will show the possibilities for further research.
