Megjegyzések:Our study focuses on examining physical activity, as one of the most influential health determinants by domains and dimensions among Roma, the largest vulnerable ethnic minority in Europe. The study was carried out on a sample representative of the Hungarian Roma (HR) population (n = 350) living in segregated colonies in Northeast Hungary in comparison with the Hungarian general (HG) population sample (n = 343) from the same region. Data were collected using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) long-form and physical activity was quantified as MET-min/week. Scores were calculated for walking, moderate and vigorous-intensity activities for each domain (work, transport, domestic and gardening, leisure) and as an overall total. The HR population-similarly to the HG-is characterized by moderate or high physical activity; however, this level is achieved by work and housework/gardening instead of leisure time activities, which is worryingly low among HR females, but its prevalence is significantly (p < 0.001) lower in both sexes than among the HG population in the vigorous activity category. HR men move (walk and cycle) significantly more during transport than HG men. Our results may direct the attention of decision-makers to improve the health of Roma by increasing leisure-time physical activity.

Megjegyzések:Abstract Background and aims: The role of diet in blood lipids is scarcely investigated in adults at risk of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and even less studied regarding their socioeconomic status (SES). This study aimed to investigate the associations of diet quality with blood lipids in adults from families at high-risk for developing T2DM from six European countries, considering their SES. Methods and results: In total 2049 adults (67% women) from relatively low-SES regions and high T2DM risk families were enrolled. Dietary habits, sedentary behaviour and sociodemographic characteristics were assessed using standardised questionnaires. The associations of tertiles of healthy diet score (HDS) with blood lipids were tested by univariate analysis of variance (UNIA- NOVA). HDL-Cholesterol (HDL-C) was positively (B 1.54 95%CI 0.08 to 2.99) and LDL-Cholesterol (LDL-C) (B 4.15 95%CI 7.82 to 0.48), ratio of total cholesterol to HDL-C (B 0.24 95%CI 0.37 to 0.10), ratio of LDL-C to HDL-C (B 0.18 95%CI 0.28 to 0.08) and Atherogenic Index of Plasma (B 0.03 95%CI 0.06 to 0.00) inversely associated with the highest tertile of diet score compared to the lowest tertile independently of age, sex, Body Mass Index, total screen time and smoking. In sub-analysis of education (<14 and 14 years of education), these findings were only significant in the high-SES group. Conclusion: While diet quality was poorer in the low-SES group, an association between diet quality and lipidemic profile was not found, as increased central obesity and smoking prevalence might have confounded this association. Megjegyzések:With the increase of life expectancy, the issue of quality of life (QoL) for the elderly is getting more focus. Beside the individual view, social and economic aspects are becoming more pronounced. Aims: In this study, we set out to establish a new classification of long-term care (LTC) regimes by examining the relationship between care systems and subjective quality of life. Methods: Our work was based on data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe through a secondary analysis of CASP-12 results. It was assumed that higher quality of life values could be observed in countries providing a higher standard of social care. We studied the back- ground variables in different LTC regimes. Results: The data shows that the development and availability of care sys- tems have a significant indirect correlation with older people's subjective well-being. Our results raise the possibility of a new subdivision of care regimes. Conclusions: Those countries featured earlier as family-based systems and Central-Eastern European countries were growing closer to each other in this classification. As our statistical method proved, family-based and Central-Eastern European regimes are not significantly different (Minimisers). Northern countries, where investment and quality of life are also high, remain highly positioned on the scale (Maximisers). Countries that have medium-level investments and subjective well-being parameters place in the middle of the scale (Optimisers). Global changes (climate, migration, political culture, technology) are expected to have an effect on social care regimes, especially on Minimisers, where the realization or failure of investments is a critical question.

Megjegyzések:Increased permeability of the epithelial and endothelial cell layers results in the onset of pathogenic mechanisms. In both cell types, cell?cell connections play a regulatory role in altering membrane permeability. The aim of this study was to investigate the modulating effect of anthocyanin-rich extract (AC) on TJ proteins in inflammatory Caco-2 and HUVEC monolayers. Distribution of Occludin and zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) were investigated by immunohistochemical staining and the protein levels were measured by flow cytometry. The mRNA expression was determined by quantitative real-time PCR. The transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) values were measured during a permeability assay on HUVEC cell culture. As a result of inflammatory induction by TNF-?, redistribution of proteins was observed in Caco-2 cell culture, which was reduced by AC treatment. In HUVEC cell culture, the decrease in protein and mRNA expression was more dominant during inflammatory induction, which was compensated for by the AC treatment. Overall, AC positively affected the expression of the examined cell-binding structures forming the membrane on both cell types
