Megjegyzések:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common metabolic liver disease linked to obesity and diabetes. This study aimed to assess whether serum GOT and GPT can predict NAFLD early in at-risk individuals. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using hospital records from the University of Debrecen (2012?2022), including 4886 NAFLD-free individuals at baseline. NAFLD incidence was tracked using ICD-10 codes, with transaminase levels (GOT and GPT) and key metabolic comorbidities analyzed as predictors in a longitudinal design. Survival analysis included Fleming?Harrington tests, Kaplan?Meier, and Nelson?Aalen estimators as well as restricted mean survival time. The Royston?Parmar flexible parametric model was used to assess the time-dependent effects of GOT, GPT, and metabolic risk factors on NAFLD incidence. An elevated GOT was significantly associated with an increased NAFLD hazard (HR = 2.71, 95% CI: 1.31?5.58), as was an elevated GPT (HR = 2.21, 95% CI: 1.09?4.43). Disorders of lipid metabolism showed the strongest association (HR = 3.29, 95% CI: 1.51?7.25). Elevated GOT and GPT levels, in combination with demographic and clinical factors, may serve as valuable prognostic biomarkers for NAFLD progression, underscoring the importance of routine liver enzyme monitoring and comprehensive metabolic management to improve long-term patient outcomes.

Cím:Analysis of Molecular Aspects of Periodontitis as a Risk Factor for Neurodegenerative Diseases : a Single-Center 10-Year Retrospective Cohort Study / Ghanem Amr Sayed, Móré Marianna, Nagy Attila Csaba
Dátum:2025
ISSN:1661-6596 1422-0067
Megjegyzések:Neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) represent a considerable global health burden with no definitive treatments. Emerging evidence suggests that periodontitis may contribute to NDD through shared inflammatory, microbial, and genetic pathways. A retrospective cohort design was applied to analyze hospital records from 2012-2022 and to determine whether periodontitis independently increases NDD risk when accounting for major cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, metabolic, and inflammatory confounders. Likelihood ratio-based Cox regression tests and Weibull survival models were applied to assess the association between periodontitis and NDD risk. Model selection was guided by Akaike and Bayesian information criteria, while Harrell's C-index and receiver operating characteristic curves evaluated predictive performance. Periodontitis demonstrated an independent association with neurodegenerative disease risk (HR 1.43, 95% CI 1.02-1.99). Cerebral infarction conferred the highest hazard (HR 4.81, 95% CI 2.90-7.96), while pneumonia (HR 1.96, 95% CI 1.05-3.64) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (HR 2.82, 95% CI 1.77-4.51) also showed significant increases in risk. Older individuals with periodontitis are at heightened risk of neurodegenerative disease, an effect further intensified by cerebrovascular, cardiometabolic, and gastroesophageal conditions. Pneumonia also emerged as an independent pathophysiological factor that may accelerate disease onset or progression. Attention to oral and systemic factors through coordinated clinical management may mitigate the onset and severity of neurodegeneration.

Megjegyzések:Background and aim Hungary has the fifth highest cancer incidence rate in the European Union, with an age-standardized rate (ASR) of 336.7 per 100,000 according to GLOBOCAN 2022. Additionally, Hungary holds the highest cancer mortality rate in the EU, with an ASR of 148.1 per 100,000. This study aimed to investigate the sociodemographic, lifestyle, and chronic disease-related factors affecting cancer prevalence in the Hungarian population. Materials and methods Data from the 2009, 2014, and 2019 installments of the European Health Interview Survey conducted in Hungary were pooled, resulting in a representative sample of 16,480 individuals. Weighted multiple logistic regression models were used to analyze the data, with goodness of fit assessed using the Hosmer-Lemeshow test. The best-fitting models were further evaluated using ROC analysis to calculate the Area Under the Curve (AUC) to assess discriminative ability. Results Urban residency was associated with higher cancer odds in 2014 (OR 1.85 [CI: 1.08?3.16]) and the pooled data (OR 1.44 [CI: 1.08?1.9]). Employed individuals had lower odds of cancer (2014: OR 0.34 [CI: 0.16?0.74]; pooled: OR 0.64 [CI: 0.45?0.92]). Among comorbid conditions, peptic ulcer (2009: OR 1.74 [CI: 1.13?2.69]; 2019: OR 3.2 [CI: 1.58?6.47]; pooled: OR 1.83 [CI: 1.31?2.54]) and chronic liver disease (2009: OR 3.52 [CI: 1.73?7.17]; pooled: OR 2.5 [CI: 1.4?4.47]) were significantly associated with higher cancer odds. Reporting bad health was linked to increased cancer risk (2009: OR 2.92 [CI: 1.87?4.58]; 2014: OR 5.52 [CI: 3.23?9.45]; 2019: OR 2.23 [CI: 1.26?3.95]). Conclusion Comorbid conditions such as peptic ulcer and chronic liver disease significantly increase cancer risk in Hungary. Urban residents require targeted preventive measures, and unemployment should be addressed. Early detection through appropriate screening and effective management of comorbid conditions are essential to prevent escalation and reduce overall cancer prevalence.

Megjegyzések:Background Hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, and hypercholesterolemia represent significant public health concerns. This research presentation examines the impact of various oral health indicators, such as bleeding gums, untreated dental decay, loose teeth, and missing teeth, on these conditions within Hungary. Materials and methods This study utilized data from 5,603 individuals participating in the 2019 Hungarian European Health Interview Survey. Predictor variables were chosen using elastic net regularization and k-fold cross-validation to enhance the performance of weighted logistic regression models. Sensitivity analysis underpinned the robustness of the results. Results Significant associations emerged between deteriorating oral health and the prevalence of various cardiovascular conditions. An increased likelihood of hypertension was observed in individuals with multiple tooth removals, showing an odds ratio (OR) of 1.67 with a 95% confidence interval (CI) of [1.01-2.77]. The use of dental prosthetics presented an OR of 1.45 [1.20-1.75]. Additionally, presence of gum bleeding corresponded to elevated odds for both cardiovascular disease (OR?=?1.69 [1.30-2.21]) and hypercholesterolemia (OR?=?1.40 [1.09-1.81]). Conclusions enhancing oral health could potentially mitigate chronic cardiac conditions, highlighting the importance of integrating dental care in comprehensive disease management strategies.

Cím:Assessing the impact of sociodemographic and lifestyle factors on oral health : a cross-sectional study in the Hungarian population / Ghanem Amr Sayed, Móré Marianna, Nagy Attila Csaba
Dátum:2023
ISSN:2296-2565
Megjegyzések:Introduction: Oral health, a critical aspect of overall well-being, is influenced by various sociodemographic and lifestyle factors, with poor oral health associated with systemic diseases and diminished quality of life. Methods: This cross-sectional study leverages data from the Hungarian European Health Interview Survey (EHIS) representative of the Hungarian population, to conduct a comprehensive examination of the intersection between these factors and oral health, aiming to identify potential risk factors and contribute to the development of targeted interventions. The research examined associations between sociodemographic/lifestyle factors and oral health. Statistical techniques included Pearson's Chi-square test, multivariate and ordinal logistic regression analyses. Weighting was applied to assure the representativeness of the population and enhance the validity of the survey results. Results: The study identifies gender, age, education, financial status, smoking, and self-perceived oral health as key factors influencing oral health outcomes. Notably, regular dental visits significantly reduced the risk of poor oral health and caries. Females, non-smokers, university graduates, high-income individuals, and those with good self-perceived health had fewer missing teeth and better self-perceived oral health. Teeth extractions due to decay, especially when not replaced, significantly increased the perception of poor oral health, while regular dental visits improved it. Discussion: The study highlights the need for personalized oral health interventions considering the different sociodemographic and lifestyle factors, along with promotion of healthy lifestyle, more frequent dental office visits and equitable dental care access. The findings offer the potential to inform regional oral health policies and prevention strategies, improving oral health and overall wellbeing.

Megjegyzések:Chronic diseases are a major cause of mortality and morbidity globally, with non-communicable diseases being responsible for most deaths. Older adults are at a higher risk of developing chronic diseases due to various sociodemographic and lifestyle factors such as age, sex, income, education, employment, place of residence, dietary supplementation, tobacco use, and alcohol consumption. Understanding the relationship between these factors and chronic diseases is crucial for identifying vulnerable populations and improving healthcare delivery. Through both an online and an interview-based survey, this cross-sectional study aimed to examine these associations, focusing on adults aged 50 and above, with the goal of identifying potential areas for intervention and prevention. The study found that gender, area of residence, education status, employment status, nutritional supplementation, body mass index (BMI), alcohol usage, and age are associated with the risk of chronic disease, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Female gender, higher educational level, employment, normal BMI, and younger age were found to be protective factors, while living in rural areas, alcohol consumption, and older age were identified as risk factors. The study recommends targeted interventions and improved access to healthcare to reduce risk factors and enhance healthcare delivery for better health outcomes.

Megjegyzések:Purpose This study investigated public perception of environmental risks, with a focus on domestic heating in Hungarian villages, and explored associations between risk perception and education, livelihood, gender, and other socio-economic factors by means of a questionnaire survey. Materials/methods Using standardised questionnaires, 533 participants were interviewed in small villages in Hajdu-Bihar County. The collected data were processed using Excel and RStudio software for statistical analysis. The chi-square test and logistic regression were used to examine the relationships between risk perception and socio-economic factors. Results The study found that public perception of risk in relation to environmental hazards - in this case, air pollution from domestic heating and nuclear power - was often irrational. The Hungarian nuclear power plant (located at least 180 km from the study sites) was incorrectly assumed to be a source of air pollution, while emissions from domestic heating were underestimated. Logistic regression analysis indicated significant associations between risk perception and factors such as education, livelihood, and gender (expressed as odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals). Education was both positively and negatively associated with certain risk factors. Higher economic status was associated with the perception of air pollution as a health risk. Women generally perceived the risks as more serious than men did. Conclusions The results of the study highlight the importance of understanding and addressing risk perception among the general public in rural Hungary in the context of environmental health risks. A targeted risk communication strategy is necessary to overcome bias in risk perception.

Cím:Association Between Influenza Vaccine Uptake and Health Awareness : A Cross-Sectional Questionnaire-Based Study Among Medical students and Healthcare Workers in Northern Vietnam / Chau Minh Nguyen, Anh Thi Van Nguyen, Minh Nguyet To, Ghanem Amr Sayed, Gergő Szőllősi, Marianna Móré, Attila Csaba Nagy
Dátum:2023
ISSN:1643-3750
Megjegyzések:Background: Seasonal influenza poses a significant global health concern. Despite the proven effectiveness of the influenza vaccine, its uptake remains low in Vietnam. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of medical students and healthcare workers on influenza vaccine uptake in northern Vietnam. Material/Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 585 participants from northern Vietnam institutions through an anonymous online survey via Google form from June to August 2022. The cut-off for a high level of knowledge and a positive attitude was set at 70% for each variable. Bivariate analysis was conducted to establish associations. Multiple binary logistic regression models were used to identify factors associated with knowledge, attitude, and practice. Results: Among the participants, 463 (79.15%) were women, 354 (60.51%) were below 25 years old, 426 (72.82%) were of ?Kinh" ethnicity, and 454 (77.61%) were single. Only 237 (40.51%) were vaccinated. Good knowledge and attitude were reported by 36.58% and 42.39% of the participants, respectively. Having a high level of knowledge was found positively associated with having a positive attitude (odds ratio 2.11 [1.48-3.01]). Kinh ethnicity was positively associated with knowledge (1.67 [1.12-2.49]) and attitude (1.97 [1.32-2.94]). Female participants displayed a more positive attitude (2.08 [1.33-3.25]). Several factors influenced the uptake, such as being single (2.07 [1.19-3.59]), being a medical doctor (2.34 [1.09-5.06]), and being advised by a healthcare provider (2.96 [2.00-4.37]). Conclusions: A noticeable gap in knowledge and attitude related to influenza vaccine uptake was found among the target population. Tailored interventions are necessary to improve vaccination coverage.
