Megjegyzések:Our basic aim of the research is the implementation and gradual improvement of a three-dimensional virtual library model. In the development stage of the first version of the model we chose some illustrious and well-known authors who represented the ancient Greek poetry and drama from the 3rd century BC. Their short biography and certain parts of their works formed the selected content of the virtual library model. We designed a four-level hierarchical and scale-free structure based on the original classification scheme of the ancient Library of Alexandria elaborated by the famous librarian Callimachus. As for the library content, our general objective is to select and process as many ancient literary works of great cultural value as possible by the continuous enlargement of the database of the virtual library content. In the first version of the model both the biographies and the selected literary works were in English, but we have already started to upload Hungarian translations of some items in the database. Moreover, we are enhancing the content of the database with additional items of different verbal and/or multimedia text types (e.g. illustrative images, commentaries, annotations, concordance and collocation tables, dictionary and encyclopedia entries, translations, adaptations, summaries and so on). This additional background information is necessary for us to interpret and understand the old Greek poetical texts better, especially in the case of mythological allusions. Currently we investigate how the collected items can be effectively used in language learning to develop the learners' linguistic competence, and, in general, how the spatial hypertext concept could promote the multidisciplinary use of the model in education. In this three-dimensional environment we see a superb and promising example of efficient knowledge organization. Our basic idea is to provide preprocessed, ?memorize at once" content for those users who are interested both in ancient period and literature and language learning, thus supporting their learning activity and lexical knowledge at the same time. The virtual library model is currently based on PHP/MySQL technology which fully supports the three-dimensional representation capabilities of the VirCA (Virtual Collaboration Arena) system. The web-based implementation of the model represents the library content in a similar spatial arrangement as the same elements may appear in the three-dimensional space. It is also possible to present the content of the virtual room by a two-dimensional projection described by an XML file with a corresponding style sheet based on XSL/jQuery technology. In addition, there is a brand new and efficient tool of cyber learning with excellent 3D presentation capabilities called the MaxWhere Seminar system developed by the professionals of the VirCA system. The MaxWhere system uses 3D virtual space as a general context and allows us to present online interactive content as well as vivid and intricate details of the presented material. We firmly think that this new 3D presentation tool can also be effectively used for supporting our main goals in the future.

Megjegyzések:In our paper we describe in detail a three-dimensional virtual library model inspired by the system and presumable content of the ancient Library of Alexandria. In addition, we introduce one the possible implementation of our virtual library model based on the VirCA system and web technology (such as HTML, CSS, PHP etc.). In our model, we used the classification system elaborated by the famous librarian, poet and scholar Callimachus. Focusing primarily on the field of Greek poetry and drama in the 3rd century BC, in the current implementation of our model we selected those ancient and well-known authors whose texts, completed with short biographical data, may be a good starting point for the content of the virtual library. Currently we prefer various English translations of the selected ancient Greek texts with an intention to gradually improve the content of the library with other texts and multimedia materials (other translations, paintings, images of papyri, sculptures, commentaries, selected quotations, dictionary and encyclopedia entries, related texts from the ancient and modern culture etc.) which form background knowledge for the interpretation of the processed texts. We describe a scale-free network model, the so-called Alexandrian model of network, which the organization and future development of the virtual library is based on. Finally, we discuss the main purpose of our virtual library model and its possible relationships with the current cognitive infocommunications research.

Megjegyzések:In our paper we discuss the implementation andthe presentation features of our three-dimensional virtual librarymodel based on the structure of the classification system of theancient Library of Alexandria devised by the famous poet,Callimachus in the 3rd century BC. In the first version of themodel we used English translations of biographies and selectedliterary works, but we have already started to upload Hungariantranslations of some items in the database. Currently we areenhancing the content of the database with additional items ofdifferent verbal and/or multimedia text types. There are twospecific aims which we would like to achieve using the 3DVLM.First, we would like to help our users be acknowledged with theliterary works of the ancient Alexandrian times and, tounderstand and interpret the texts, acquire basic knowledge ofthe related mythological content. Second, in the course ofreading, understanding and memorizing the various materialsprovided by the knowledge base of the 3DVLM, the users areinspired to gradually develop their linguistic (and also generic)knowledge, which, in our case, related to English language. Inour paper we implemented a hierarchical model which has beenelaborated specifically for describing different aspects ofefficiency in multimedia language learning supporting systems.We focus on the effectiveness of this model and elaborate someintrinsic details of its data structure emphasizing the role ofknowledge organization in the learning material. The mostsignificant cognitive aspects of our 3D VLM are highlighted as well.

Megjegyzések:Az előadásunkban egy három dimenziós virtuális könyvtári modellt mutatunk be, amely a VirCA rendszer lehetőségein alapul. Az ókori Alexandriai Könyvtár Kallimakhosz-féle hierarchikus osztályozási rendszerét alapul véve az i.e. 3. század görög költészetének és drámairodalmának néhány jeles és ismert alkotóját, valamint egyes műveiket (ill. ezek meghatározott részleteit) választottuk ki a virtuális könyvtárban hozzáférhetővé tett tartalom számára. Annak érdekében, hogy a megjelenített tartalom a három dimenziós virtuális térben kereshető, ill. megtalálható legyen a felhasználók számára, meghatározott metaadatokat kapcsoltunk a kiválasztott ókori görög szövegek angol fordításaihoz. Mindezekkel egy jól kereshető és rendkívül látványos térbeli (spatial) hipertext rendszert alakítottunk ki. Ahogy korábban már említettük, az általunk kifejlesztett három dimenziós virtuális könyvtári modell a VirCA rendszer prezentációs és navigációs lehetőségein alapul. A rendszer alapvető egységének, a virtuális szobának az előterében meghatározott számú fülkét, "kabinetet" alakítottunk ki, és ezekben helyeztük el az általunk kiválasztott és a virtuális környezetben megjelenített könyvtári tartalmakat. Az általunk kiválasztott jeles görög alkotók és műveik Kallimakhosz hierarchikus osztályozási rendszerében a "költők" kategória minden alcsoportját lefedik - ennek megfelelően jelenítettük meg az alkotók műveit (ill. ezek meghatározott részleteit) tartalmazó fülkék felett a megfelelő alcsoportok megnevezését mint alapvető, a könyvtári tartalmak keresését és megtalálását lehetővé tevő metaadatokat. Követve Kallimakhosz katalógusának szerzőközpontú osztályozási sémáját, a három dimenziós virtuális könyvtári környezetben nemcsak költői, ill. drámai műveket tettünk hozzáférhetővé, hanem az egyes szerzők rövid életrajzát is, kiegészítve a szerzők képével, és/vagy mellszobrával. Mindezzel azt a tartalomközpontú elrendezést - és ennek jellegzetes hangulatát - próbáltuk minél jobban visszaadni, amit Kallimakhosz korabeli katalógusa és az ennek megfelelő ókori könyvtári rendszer képviselt. A három dimenziós virtuális könyvtári modell mellett elkészítettük a rendszer ma már "hagyományosnak" tekinthető, hipertext alapú (kétdimenziós) reprezentációját is, amely véleményünk szerint még jobban kiemeli a három dimenziós könyvtári modell által nyújtott új lehetőségeket. A hipertext reprezentáció elkészítésekor megkíséreltük a lehető legjobban megközelíteni azt a környezetet, amit a három dimenziós tér nyújt. Ehhez ugyanazokat a tartalmakat ábrázoltuk, lényegében ugyanabban az elrendezésben, mint a virtuális könyvtári modellben. Amellett, hogy így többé-kevésbé hasonló atmoszférát kapunk, reményeink szerint a hipertext reprezentáció potenciálisan lehetővé teszi azt is, hogy a két megjelenítési formát összehasonlítsuk, és ennek az eredményeit felhasználjuk a rendszer továbbfejlesztése - és a megfelelő elméleti következtetések levonása - során.
