Megjegyzések:	Pharmaceutical industry is an export-oriented sector of significant traditions, producing large value added and creating huge external trade surplus. Our research, based on the analysis of external trade data after giving a short presentation of global mechanisms and Hungarian traditions of the industry, is fundamentally focused on the examination of three hypotheses. (1) Hungary is one of the leading exporters of pharmaceutical products within the region, showing significant growth. (2) The main markets of the Hungarian pharma-ceutical industry are found in Eastern and Central Europe. (3) The Hungarian products have significant share on their most important markets. The research has dynamic and comparative characteristics: it is focused on the decade after the turn of the Millennium, comparing the performance of Hungary to the important players within the region. Phar-maceutical industry we are regarding as one of the possible sectors of a Hungarian upgrad-ing strategy.
