Megjegyzések:Trait-based ecology is gaining ground nowadays on species-based ecology: the number of research and publication focusing on the ecological role of taxa instead of the species themselves increased significantly in the last two decades. One great advantage of this approach is that communities with different species composition due to great geographical distances (e.g., different continents) or different environmental conditions (e.g., loess, sand, and alkaline grasslands) become comparable. Obtaining trait values is, however, labour and time consuming even in the case of so-called soft traits. It is therefore reasonable and desirable for scientists to share their data as widely as possible. Demand for such data induced the publication of data papers and the establishment of databases, which support both theoretical ecological research and practical restoration ecological projects. Although several international databases (e.g., TRY, LEDA, CLO-PLA, BiolFLOR) are available nowadays, Central and Eastern European species are either missing or underrepresented in them. Consequently, measurement and publication of the traits of species typical in the above region is necessary. This paper presents leaf trait (leaf fresh and dry weight, leaf area, specific leaf area and leaf dry matter content) data for more than 1100 species of the Central European flora.

Megjegyzések:The role of anthropogenically influenced habitats in conserving elements of the original wildlife has increased worldwide simultaneously with the disappearance of natural sites. Burial places are able to conserve original elements of the wildlife, and this fact has been known for at least a century. To this day, little is known about long-time changes and the effect of long-time management methods in cemeteries on the flora they harbor. The utility of historical maps in research focused on natural values, as well as in answering questions related to conservation was recently demonstrated, but the use of digitized historical maps in biodiversity research of the Carpathian Basin is very limited. In the present paper, we aimed to predict the conservation potential of long-established and newly established cemeteries of Hungarian settlements with various population sizes based on the digitized maps of the 2nd Military Survey of the Austrian Empire (1819-1869), by categorizing cemeteries into 3 distinct (anthropogenic habitat, cemetery, or natural habitat) types. To build our models, we used records of the protected flora from Hungarian cemeteries, based on data of thematic botanical surveys of 991 cemeteries. Out of the surveyed cemeteries, 553 (56%) harbored protected plants, totaling 306.617 estimated individuals of 92 protected species, belonging to 28 plant families. These species represent 12% of the entire protected flora of Hungary. Hungarian cemeteries play a key role mainly in preserving steppe and dry grassland plant species. Long-established and large cemeteries harbor more protected plant species than small and newly established ones. Human population size of the settlements correlated negatively with the number of protected species and individuals. Moreover, woodland cover and proportion of grassland also significantly positively affected the number of protected plant species in cemeteries.

Megjegyzések:In the face of worldwide habitat loss, the role of human-shaped habitats in conserving biodiversity is becoming increasingly important. Due to their special cultural role, cemeteries can preserve parts of the native vegetation when the surrounding landscape becomes degraded. However, these special refuges are threatened by human encroachment and changing management practices. The aim of this study was to understand how urbanization affects the conservation value of cemeteries, indicated by orchids as flagship species for biodiversity conservation. We analyzed species richness, abundance and the presence of threatened orchid taxa in cemeteries from 631 differently sized Turkish settlements along an urban-rural gradient. To understand driving patterns determining the conservation value, we performed detailed characterization of 288 cemeteries in terms of woody vegetation (tree cover and proportion of native trees) and overall structure (age, density and type of graves). Conservation value was highest in rural cemeteries. Rural cemeteries were smaller, contained more traditional and less densely situated graves, but their woody vegetation was similar to urban cemeteries. The proportion of native trees was positively related to species richness, abundance and presence of threatened orchid taxa, after taking into account area, altitude and geographical location of cemeteries. In addition, cemetery structure (age and density of graves) predicted species richness. Our results indicate that urbanization and modern changes in human activity have a strong impact on the conservation value of Turkish cemeteries. Practices maintaining traditional burial habits and environment-friendly management of cemeteries deserve more moral and financial support.

Dátum:2022

Megjegyzések:A fatermesztési célú nyárfaültetvényekben 26 orchideafaj és 2 hibrid előfordulásáról 13 európai országból állnak rendelkezésre irodalmi adatok. További 4 faj előfordulását 3 ország nyárfaültetvényeiben a világhálón található források igazolják.

Cím:Turkish graveyards as refuges for orchids against tuber harvest / Attila Molnár V., Timea Nagy, Viktor Löki, Kristóf Süveges, Attila Takács, Judit Bódis, Jácint Tökölyi
Dátum:2017
ISSN:2045-7758
Megjegyzések:Harvest of orchid tubers for salep production is widespread in Southwestern Asia and the Balkans and constitutes a major conservation risk for wild orchid populations. Synanthropic habitats, such as graveyards are important refuges for orchids and other organisms, and could offer protection from salep harvesting because of their special cultural role. However, little is known about the occurrence and factors influencing harvesting of salep in graveyards. During field surveys of 474 graveyards throughout Turkey, we observed 333 graveyards with orchids, 311 graveyards with tuberous orchids and salep harvest in 14 graveyards. Altogether, 530 individuals of 17 orchid species were collected, representing 9% of the individuals recorded. Harvesting intensity was relatively low and populations were usually not wholly destroyed. However, some species were clearly more affected than others. Salep harvesting risk of orchid species was significantly associated with flowering time, with early-flowering species being more affected. A marginally significant positive relationship with between harvesting risk and species-specific tuber size was also detected. Our data suggest that graveyards might offer some protection against salep harvesting in Turkey, but they also show that some orchid taxa are much more affected than others. Overall, our observations add more weight to the conservation value of these special habitats.

A dolgozatban bemutatjuk néhány országszerte ritka vagy szórványos őshonos faj (például Chenopodium murale, Ch. rubrum, Lycopsis arvensis, Chamaenerion dodonaei, Reseda luteola, Senecio viscosus, Gnaphalium luteoalbum, Cyperus glomeratus), ill. újjövevény (Lepidium densiflorum, L. virginicum) újabb előfordulásait. Védett, de nem feltétlenül ritka fajok lokális elterjedéséhez is kiegészítésekkel szolgálunk (például Pseudolysimachion longifolium, Nymphoides peltata, Epipactis tallosii, Leucanthemella serotina). Néhány faj előfordulását tiszántúli (Sherardia arvensis, Thymelaea passerina, Silene conica) vagy alföldi (Monotropa hypopitys) kitekintésben is jelentősnek tartjuk. Abstract ? In this paper we provide new floristic data for 126 species and one hybrid from the Borsod Plain and the Sajó-Hernád Interfluve (Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, Northeast Hungary) observed between 2006 and 2019. A significant proportion of the data is related to gravel mining activities in the area. We present new localities for rare or sporadic native taxa in Hungary (e.g. Chenopodium murale, Ch. rubrum, Lycopsis arvensis, Chamaenerion dodonaei, Reseda luteola, Senecio viscosus, Gnaphalium luteoalbum, Cyperus glomeratus) as well as rare or sporadic adventive weeds (e.g.Lepidium densi-florum, L. virginicum). We publish additions to the distribution of several legally protected species (e.g. Pseudolysimachion longifolium, Nymphoides peltata, Epipactis tallosii, Leucanthemella serotina). Pres-ence of some taxa is remarkable regarding to the flora of the whole area of Crisicum (Sherardia arven-sis, Thymelaea passerina, Silene conica) or the Great Hungarian Plain (Monotropa hypopitys).

Megjegyzések:Epipactis tallosii is considered as one of the highly threatened European orchid species due to its local distribution and small isolated populations that are characterized by decreasing trends. The species is now enlisted in the endangered (EN) category of the Red List. Nevertheless, during the last decade, multiple new populations of the species were found in Hungary, while our feld surveys indicated that E. tallosii populations regularly occur in poplar (Populus) plantations. Here we conducted a thorough feld survey of poplar plantations, by visiting 182 plantations in Hungary and surrounding countries in the Pannonian Biogeographic Region. We found E. tallosii in 23% of the visited plantations, and counted a total of c. 4000 generative shoots. Moreover, we documented the occurrence of the species to four countries, where it has not been reported before: Croatia, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine. Alien and indigenous/mixed poplar plantations were similarly likely to harbour populations of E. tallosii. Our study suggests that the distribution area and number of populations of E. tallosii is much larger than previously assumed, and that poplar plantations serve as suitable habitat islands in the agricultural landscapes for this orchid. In the light of our results, we suggest the reassessment of the IUCN category of E. tallosii and to re-categorize it as Near Threatened (NT).

Jellemzően a rendszeresen öntözött, folyamatosan nedves felszíneket kolonizálta (cserepek, konténerek talaja, geotextillel borított ágyások sáros felszíne stb.). A korábbi években Cardamine hirsuta L. néven gyűjtött, a JPU és DE gyűjteményekben elhelyezett példányaink felülvizsgálata során a C. occulta további adatai kerültek elő. Ezek egyike (2004.08.27., Heves megye: Eger [8088.3; 8188.1], Schmotzer A., DE) a rendelkezésünkre álló irodalmi adatok alap?ján a faj harmadik dokumentált előfordulása Európában. Abstract: During the study of the weed flora of garden centers in Hungary (among 2017?2020), remarkable populations of Cardamine occulta Hornem., a new alien for the Hungarian flora were found. C. occulta was present altogether in 51 of the 53 visited sites. Dominantly the regularly irrigated and continuously moist microhabitats (pots, containers, muddy surfaces of geotextile-covered beds etc.) were colonized. During the revision of our recently collected specimens, deposited in JPU and DE herbaria as Cardamine hirsuta L., further individuals proved to identical with this till overlooked species. One of them (27.08.2004., Heves county: Eger [8088.3; 8188.1], coll. by A. Schmotzer, deposited in DE collection) proved to the third documented occurrence in Europe, comparing to the accessed literature data. Eclipta prostrata (L.) L. and Urtica membranacea Poir. are also new aliens for the Hungarian flora. Several introduced individuals of these taxa were found in containers of imported thermophilous woody ornamentals at 4 and 2 sites, respectively. Tens of individuals of Eclipta prostratawere also found in a sapling-bed at another site. New populations of scarce or rare Euphorbia prostrataAiton, E. serpens Kunth and Veronica peregrina L. were also documented.

Megjegyzések:Közleményünk célja a Magyarország edényes növényfajainak elterjedési atlaszatérképeinek kiegészítése, főként aktuális előfordulási adatokkal. Összesen 297 edényes taxon előfordulási adatait közöljük az ország egész területéről, mintegy 247 flóratérképezési negyedkvadrátból. Az adatok között a ritkább taxonok (például Armoracia macrocarpa (Waldst. et Kit.) Kit. exBaumg., Samolus valerandi L., Epipactis voethii Robatsch) mellett országosan elterjedt, de többékevésbé adathiányos fajok (például Ranunculus ficaria L., Viola kitaibeliana Roem. et Schult., Gageavillosa (M. Bieb.) Duby), illetve adventív fajok (például Cymbalaria muralis G. Gaertn., B. Mey. et Scherb.,Potentilla indica (Andrews) Focke, Tragus racemosus (L.) All.) esetében is közöljük az atlasz térképeihez képest újnak bizonyuló lelőhelyeket.
