Megjegyzések:A total of 73 sites were analyzed in the Carpathian Basin between 2019 and 2020, 63 of which were infected with a fungus, Macrophomina phaseolina. The symptomatic characteristics were also examined, and the most reliable way to determine the presence of the pathogen is the presence of large number of microsclerotia inside the lowest third of the stem. Damage caused by M. phaseolina was assessed in six regions of Hungary in the years 2019 and 2020. Previous cropping and weather data were also examined. In 2019, disease incidence was 70%-83%, whereas in 2020, it varied between 9% and 71%. Infection index was 77% in sites where 2 years have passed between sunflower sowings, while it was 67% in the case of 3 years. Effect of infection on head diameter, 1000 seed weight and oil content were also evaluated. M. phaseolina infection caused considerable yield loss due to the decrease in the head diameter, seed weight, and 1000 seed weight.
